From October 15th to 18th, 2023, Vice President Huang Xianhai of Zhejiang University led a delegation on a visit to Washington, D.C., and New York City in the United States. During their trip, the delegation visited five prominent think tanks and engaged in discussions with several experts. Professor Gong Sen, the Director of the CISDG, accompanied the delegation on this visit.
The delegation met with prominent experts during their visit, including Senior Advisor and China economic specialist Scott Kennedy, Senior Researcher Ilaria Mazzocco, and Deputy Director Nic Rogers from the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Senior Researcher Mary Lovely and China Program Coordinator Huang Tianlei from the Peterson Institute for International Economics; Professor Andrew Mertha, Vice Dean of the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, and Director of the China Studies Program; David Firestein, President and CEO of the George H.W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, and Professor John Kent, a distinguished expert from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. Additionally, Professor Gong Sen led the delegation in visiting the Asia Society Policy Institute, where they engaged with Mr. Daniel Russel, Vice President responsible for international security and diplomacy and former Assistant Secretary of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, as well as Mr. Blake Berger, Associate Director of the Asia Society Policy Institute. The discussions covered topics of mutual concern, including China-U.S. industrial policies, national security policies, and international development cooperation, while also exploring potential collaboration in subsequent China-U.S. Track II dialogues and other projects.
