On December 1, 2023, the workshop on China-US Relations and High-Quality Development in Zhejiang was successfully conducted at the Zijingang International Hotel in Hangzhou.
The event was organized by the Centre for International Studies on Development and Governance, Zhejiang University and Zhejiang (CiSDG). Over twenty scholars from institutions such as the China Institute of International Studies, the Development Research Center of the State Council, the University of International Business and Economics, the China and Globalization Center, Zhejiang University, as well as relevant provincial and municipal departments, participated in the workshop. The workshop included keynote speeches, thematic discussions, and other segments, allowing participants to engage in comprehensive exchanges and delve into crucial topics related to China-US relations and Zhejiang's high-quality development.
During the morning session, presentations were delivered by key speakers on the theme of “Theoretical and Practical Exploration of High-Quality Development in Zhejiang under the New Situation.” This included Wang Zhongmei, Director and Researcher at the World Economic Research Institute of the Shanghai Institute for International Studies; Professor He Wenjiong from the School of Public Affairs at Zhejiang University, also serving as the Director of the Research Center for Social Welfare and Governance; Professor Fang Kai, a Long-term Professor at Zhejiang University's School of Public Affairs and Deputy Director of the Regional Coordinated Development Research Center; and Chai Yuxi, Associate Researcher at the Zhejiang (Zhejiang University) International Studies on Development and Governance Research Center. Their presentations covered topics such as “Transformation of Foreign Economic and Trade Policy under Global Weak Growth,” “Knowledge Achievements in the Development and Exploration of Common Prosperity Field in Zhejiang,” “Knowledge Achievements in Zhejiang's Low-Carbon Development Field,” and “Knowledge Achievements in the Development of Zhejiang's Digital Economy Field.” Participants in the discussion comprised Huang Xianhai, Vice President and Professor at Zhejiang University; Huang Qiaomin, Director of the Policy Information Center at the Policy Research Office of the Provincial Party Committee; Li Shi, Senior Professor in the School of Arts and Dean of the Institute for Common Prosperity and Development at Zhejiang University; Yao Xianguo, Senior Professor in the School of Arts and Dean of the Public Policy Research Institute at Zhejiang University; Liu Qing, Vice President and Researcher at the China Institute of International Studies; Liang Ziqian, First Deputy Dean of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation Institute; Shi Minjun, Qiushi Distinguished Professor and Director of the Urban Development and Low-Carbon Strategy Research Center at Zhejiang University; Shen Yongdong, Long-term Professor and Deputy Dean of the School of Public Affairs at Zhejiang University; and Zhan Peng, Researcher at the Institute for Common Prosperity and Development at Zhejiang University. Gong Sen, the Director of the Zhejiang (Zhejiang University) International Studies on Development and Governance Research Center, chaired this session.
In the afternoon session, prominent speakers addressed the theme “Zhejiang’s Response in the Context of China-U.S. Relations.” This included Professor Tu Xinquan, Dean of the WTO Research Institute at the University of International Business and Economics; Wang Huiyao, Chairman of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG); Li Chengjian, Director and Researcher at the Macroeconomic Research Department of the Development Research Center of the State Council; Liu Guozhu, Professor in the School of History and Director of the Center for American Studies at Zhejiang University; and Professor Zhang Xuliang, Director and Researcher at the Institute for Regional Innovation and Development at Zhejiang University. Their presentations covered topics such as “Recent Developments and Prospects of China-U.S. Economic and Trade Relations,” “International Observations in China, the U.S., and Europe and Innovations in Domestic Policy,” “China-U.S. Relations and the International and Domestic Economic Situation,” “The Broad Securitization and Ideological Impact of the U.S. Digital Sphere on Chinese Digital Enterprises,” and “Risk Assessment and Response in Key Areas of Industrial and Supply Chain Under the Background of China-U.S. Relations.” Director Gong Sen also provided a detailed overview of the center's research achievements over the past year concerning global governance and China-U.S. relations. The discussion involved participants such as Sheng Shihao, Chairman of the Zhejiang Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles; Professor Shi Jinchuan, Senior Professor in the School of Arts and Director of the Academy of Finance Research at Zhejiang University; Lang Jinhuan, Director of the Strategic Institute at the Zhejiang Development and Planning Institute; Yao Xianbin, Former Senior Advisor to the President of the Asian Development Bank; Mao Rui, Professor at the School of Public Affairs at Zhejiang University and Deputy Director of the Zhejiang University-IFPRI International Development Joint Research Center; Zhao Langping, Deputy Party Secretary of the Shaoxing Bureau of Commerce and Vice President of the Shaoxing Council for the Promotion of International Trade; and Li Feng, Head of the Open Development and Business Environment Department at the Zhejiang Economic and Information Center. This segment was moderated by Li Jia, Assistant Director of the Zhejiang (Zhejiang University) International Studies on Development and Governance Research Center.
The workshop focused on the current state of China-U.S. relations. Distinguished participants, approaching the issues of China-U.S. relations and high-quality development in Zhejiang from various perspectives, engaged in enthusiastic and in-depth discussions. The atmosphere was lively, fostering meaningful exchanges.
